Welcome to Coin Update!

We’re back with another round up of coin collecting news and articles from a variety of sources across the internet! First, a look at the design candidates and recommendations for the 2012 Infantry Silver Dollars. Also, the Citizens Coinage Advisory Committee’s newest member, public votes on 2-euro coin design, Long Beach Expo road report and videos, ANA 2011 elections, high prices for rare packaging, Proof 1975 “No S” Roosevelt Dime, new book on Jewish coins, and notable auctions. On to the links…

Here’s a look at the twelve obverse and seven reverse design candidates for the upcoming 2012 Infantry Commemorative Silver Dollars. A related story on Mint News Blog shows the various recommendations of the CFA, CCAC, and National Infantry Foundation.

The Washington Post has an article on the Citizens Coinage Advisory Committee, highlighting the newest member Erik Jansen.

To celebrate 10 years of the Euro, a new 2-euro coin will be issued across all member nations. The design is being chosen by the public, who will vote for one of five finalist designs.

CoinWeek has several videos from Long Beach. See the latest five entries in the video news section.

The ANA recently mailed their ballots for the 2011 elections. The only contest will be for the office of Vice President.

Steve Roach reports on some of the incredible prices recently realized for “Non-CC GSA Hardpack Morgan Dollars.”

Stack’s Bowers Galleries will offer an example of the Proof 1975 “No S” Roosevelt Dime at auction in August. This is the rarest of the “No S” Proof Roosevelt Dimes, with just two pieces known to exist.

Highlights from the Stack’s Bowers U.S. coin auction to be held later this month for the Whitman Baltimore Expo.

A Chinese chef recently published the 575-page book Money of Ancient Judea and Israel following ten years of research.

And now for some notable auctions. First, an example of the 1918/7-D Buffalo Nickel graded ANACS F15. A long delay in detection of this overdate caused many examples to be lost to circulation.

Next, the 1922 Peace Dollar graded NGC MS 67. Although this is a common date, it becomes rare at this grade level.

Last, here are the current auctions from the seller of the rare GSA coins mentioned in one of today’s articles. The listings include another non-CC GSA Morgan Dollar and memorabilia from the GSA sale.

That wraps up another update. Have a great evening!
