Starting today, customers across America can now place orders for the 2012 Chevrolet Volt extended-range electric car, which goes on sale at $39,995, including destination charge. The 2012 Volt costs $1005 less than the 2011 model, which was previously available in seven states and Washington, D.C. Besides a lower MSRP that just limbos under the $40K mark, eligible buyers can look forward to additional savings in the form of the same $7500 tax credit available to 2011 Volt customers. The ’12 Volt offers more choice than the ’11 model as well, giving buyers up to seven option packages from which to choose—four more than last year’s model. Keyless entry is now standard, and Chevrolet MyLink will soon be available. Fully loaded with leather, navigation, backup camera, and unique paint and wheels, Chevy says a Volt will cost $46,265.
