A member of the Autism.About.Com forum needs help with her teenage daughter's tantrums. Can you offer advice?
...My daughter is a 13 year old high functioning autistic. When she was 3 she used to have violent outbursts, she couldn't calm herself down and it would take hours to bring her out of it. I spent many years teaching her to self calm and by age 10 I could send her to her room to calm herself. Suddenly the outbursts are back. She goes completely crazy with anger, swears and becomes violent. She is now bigger than me, and tonight I had to get the police involved. How do I help her? Do I start back at square one? medicate her? I hate that idea, but have other children in the house and I don't want anyone hurt. When she was little I wrapped myself around her to keep her and everyone and thing safe, I rocked her and talked soothing things to her. That's not really going to work now. Please help...
