Autism - Signs, Symptoms, Treatments, Resources, Support for Autism
In honor of Autism Awareness Month, PBS News Hour is doing a series on autism.
Last night's episode featured Robert MacNeil and his grandson, Nick, aged six. The episode focused on a few surprising items: MacNeil's daughter is convinced that Nick's autism began as a result of his vaccines. A GI exam revealed intestinal issues which appear to have been at the root of at least some of Nick's difficult behaviors. While the episode doesn't out and out state that Nick's autism WAS a result of vaccines, and it is clear that GI treatment has not cured the boy's autism, the episode certainly raises the question "are mainstream physicians ignoring obvious physical issues associate with many cases of autism?"
