Welcome Coin Update!

We’re back with another fresh round up of coin collecting news and articles from around the internet! First, the US Mint has provided a release date for the first numismatic version of the America the Beautiful 5 oz. silver coins. Also, Glacier National Park Quarter bags and rolls, 2011 Silver Grizzly coins, coin dealer web presence, Heritage’s CSNS convention auction, prices for 90% silver coins, 1943 bronze cent authentication, Bernard von NotHaus, US Mint gold and silver bullion sales, and notable auctions. On to the links…

The United States Mint has scheduled the release of the collectible uncirculated America the Beautiful 5 ounce silver coin featuring Hot Springs National Park. Previous information has indicated that the mintage for each of the 2010 designs will be only 27,000.

Today, the numismatic bags and rolls for the Glacier National Park Quarter went on sale at the US Mint. The official launch ceremony will be held next week.

The Royal Canadian Mint has issued the 2011 Grizzly Silver Bullion Coin. This is the second of six coins in the Canadian Wildlife Coin Series, which began with the Timber Wolf.

An article about Charles Doyle who makes replicas of ancient Greek and Roman coins, as well as early American coins.

MetaCoin does some analysis on the web presence of coin dealers attending the Central States Numismatic Society annual convention.

Here is a preview and highlights for the Heritage auction to be conducted for the CSNS convention, which includes gold rarities, proof double eagles, and a 1920-S double eagle graded NGC MS 64.

According to Steve Roach’s market report, the 1992-present 90% silver proof coins are trading at a discount compared to pre-1965 silver coin, and values for Proof Silver Eagles have risen, eliminating the premiums for some lower mintage issues.

If you think you may have found a 1943 Bronze Lincoln Cent, here are three non-damaging tests you can perform before seeking professional authentication.

Another article on Bernard von NotHaus and the Liberty Dollars. Federal prosecutors will try to obtain government ownership of $7 million worth of Liberty Dollars and silver bullion that was seized.

Gold bullion sales at the US Mint rose in the latest month, while silver bullion sales fell to a three month low. The latter is likely due to the impact of the ongoing allocation program, which rations available supplies.

On a related note, Rep. Ron Paul intends to probe the Mint about the bullion shortage at a House subcommittee meeting to be held on April 7.

And now for some notable auctions. First, an example of the 2000-P “Cheerios” Sacagawea Dollar encapsulated and graded PCGS MS67. Several years after the fact, it was discovered that the golden dollars distributed in random boxes of Cheerios featured a prototype reverse design different than the one used for full scale production.

Next, memorabilia from the GSA Carson City Morgan Dollar sale that includes original brochures, order forms, and award forms.

Last, the Proof 1936 Walking Liberty Half Dollar graded NGC PF 65+. The same seller has separate auctions for all of the coins that make up the 1936 Proof Set.

That’s it for another update. Have a great evening!
