Whilst many Android users are waiting for the the Android 2.3 Gingerbread update to come to their device, it looks like they may not end up getting it according to some recent information given to Pocket Lint from Viewsonic.
Viewsonic told the guys over at Pocket lint that Android 2.4 will be coming out in April and it will be called Gingerbread, and there seems to be a specific reason behind this.

Viewsonic have said that Google will release Android 2.4 as Gingerbread to make it capable of running Android 3.0 Honeycomb dual core apps, which apparently the current 2.3 version of Gingerbread isn’t compatible with.
So it looks like we may get Android 2,4 Gingerbread which will have the ability to support dual core applications on a single core smartphone in April, as soon as we get some more information we will let you guys know.
