Dish Network Tailgater Lets You Watch the Game at the Game

Geeky Gadgets - Gadgets, Geek Gadgets, Cool Gadgets, Technology ...

I am not the tailgating sort of person when it comes to sports. You can see more at home on the TV. Apparently, there are some out there that want to hear the crowd roar, but want to watch on TV at the same time. For this sort of person dish Network has the Tailgater allowing you to hit the stadium and then watch in the parking lot. That sounds really weird to me.

Peugeot ‘s Suicide-Butterfly-Doored, Plug-In Hybrid Hatchback HX1 Concept Car Coming to Frankfurt

Car Reviews - 2010 Car Reviews at CARandDRIVER.com - Car Buying ...

French automaker Peugeot has unveiled yet another alternative-propulsion concept vehicle, the HX1, on the heels of its sporty EX1 and SR1 (which won a 10Best Concept Car award). The title of this post says it all, really. The HX1 is a suicide-scissor-doored plug-in hybrid hatchback, and it will make its debut at the 2011 Frankfurt auto show.

Those fancy doors open to a spacious and predictably futurephilic interior that, at first blush, appears to seat just four. The HX1, in fact, can hold up to six humans—without any awkward lap-sitting—courtesy of two jump seats that deploy from the center console in between the front and rear rows. A multi-configurable driver display, split steering wheel, and wood flooring are a few of the more out-there interior flourishes. The show-car interior is wrapped in stretched hatchback bodywork. Designers pushed the HX1’s wheels way out to its corners, giving it an elongated and sleek look.

The HX1 may be highly conceptual, but most of the technology it features is steadily grounded in reality. The concept borrows its diesel-electric hybrid tech from the Peugeot 3008 HYbrid4 and upcoming 508 RXH, but adds plug-in capability. The HX1 also shares those cars’ unique “through-the-road” hybrid layout, in which a small diesel engine powers the front wheels and an electric motor powers the rears. Like other hybrids, that electric motor also recoups braking energy to feed the battery, but it and the engine aren’t mechanically linked. The HX1’s 204-hp diesel and six-speed automatic transmission are borrowed from Peugeot’s 508 GT. The rear-mounted electric motor produces 95 hp, and total system output is a healthy 299 hp. Thanks to the plug-in functionality, the HX1 is claimed to be able to travel 18.6 miles under electric power before its lithium-ion battery pack is depleted.

August 29, 2011: U.S. Coin Design, Liberty Dollars, Roman Republican Coins

Coins and Coin Collecting | News, Articles, and Information | Coin ...

Welcome to Coin Update!

We’re back to bring you another round up of coin collecting news and articles from around the internet! First, Michael Bugeja begins a study to evaluate U.S. coinage designs as a contribution to the Citizens Coinage Advisory Committee. Also, the Vicksburg National Military Park Quarter bags and rolls, 2011 Proof Silver Eagle price increase, Liberty Dollars may be subject to seizure, Mark Salzberg interview, MS70 coins, special report on gold, ANA auction week, Roman Republican coins, 2012 Silver Koala and Kookaburra, and notable auctions. On to the links…

Michael Bugeja discusses a study to analyze legends, mottos, dates, symbols and devices on U.S. coinage.

The latest Mint News Blog post covers the US Mint’s Vicksburg Quarter products and the $8.50 price increase for the 2011 Proof Silver Eagle.

Reversing earlier statements, the Liberty Dollars created by Bernard Von Not Haus may be subject to seizure as contraband. Millions of Liberty Dollars struck in copper, silver, and gold are in the hands of collectors and other individuals.

NGC has republished an interview with Chairman Mark Salzberg that was originally published in Heritage Magazine. He discusses his first exposure to coins, the impact of skyrocketing metal prices, and his collecting interests in coins as well as other areas.

Are coins graded MS70 a nightmare? Dave Harper discusses certain MS70 coins that are not rare like the 2010 Silver Eagle bullion coins graded NGC MS 70 Early Releases with a population of 44,177 pieces.

CNBC has a special report on Gold & Other Money Metals. The article series includes a brief history of gold, modern “gold mania”, where and how to store gold, and investing in metals.

Here is the transcript from the earnings call for Collectors Universe, the parent company of PCGS. They discuss some specific points of improvements from two years ago, as well as the current quarter and fiscal year results.

Steve Roach on the ANA coin auction week that realized $71 million, with highlights from the Dick Osburn Collection of Seated Liberty half dollars.

The first part of an extensive collection of Roman Republican coins will be offered for public sale on October 5. Five of the coins are unique, and five are known in only two examples.

Here’s a look at the designs for the Perth Mint’s 2012 Silver Koala and 2012 Silver Kookaburra. These bullion coins feature new designs annually.

And now for some notable auctions. First, the 1936 Bay Bridge Half Dollar in a holder signed by designer Jacques Schnier. According to the description, in the 1980′s one thousand uncirculated specimens were sealed in the holders and signed.

Next, the popular and lower mintage 2008-W Gold Buffalo 4 Coin Proof Set with the coins graded NGC PF 69 Ultra Cameo.

That’s it for the update. Have a great evening!

China's Pending Energy Crisis

China Energy CrisisAs mature economies like the U.S. and Europe sputter postrecession, China has caught the world's attention as an economic power. The country's nearly double-digit growth is the envy -- and the concern -- of the traditional economic powers of the world.

One thing China needs to keep its economy clicking is fuel -- lots and lots of fuel. And for China, that's becoming an increasingly dangerous problem.

China Is Acting Pretty American

Chess: the genius of Bobby Fischer

Sport: Chess | guardian.co.uk

With the Bobby Fischer Against The World DVD arriving soon, it's a good time to study his inspired play

Gligoric-Fischer, Siegen 1970. Black to play.

If you didn't manage to see the excellent documentary Bobby Fischer Against The World in the cinema this summer, the DVD is released on 12 September. As the film was made for a wide audience it was understandable that the director chose not to discuss Fischer's chess-playing too deeply. But the clarity of his style on the chessboard makes for a telling contrast with his life away from it. Over the next few weeks we are going to be looking at some of Fischer's games.

Here Black's king and bishop stand well, but White still has irritating counterplay. How did Fischer keep control?

RB Over the board how many of us, if we're honest, would simply snatch the pawn on a2…? I know I would, or at least I'd be very tempted. It looks like a free pawn, with the added bonus that its capture clears the route for Black's own advanced a-pawn. But you don't need Fischer-level genius to see that there are problems with the line: after 1… Rxa2 comes 2 Nh2, with the threat of 3 Ng4+, forking king and rook.

The more I look at the position, the more I realise the problem is the knight. Would I be brave enough to sacrifice the exchange in order to take it out of the equation? Over the board, no. But here 1…Rf2+ looks the best bet: 2 Kg3 Rxf1 3 Rxf1 Rxh5. The dangerous knight is eliminated and Black gets a pawn into the bargain.

DK Eliminating the knight is the right idea, but after 1…Rf2+ 2 Kg3 Rxf1 3 Rxf1 Rxh5 White hangs on with 4 Re1 and it isn't clear how Black makes progress. Instead, Fischer played 1…Rxh5 2 Rxh5 Rf2+ 3 Kg3 Rxf1. In this case the rook is more active and the king will soon capture the pawns on e4 and f5. White's disconnected rooks are no match for Black's centralised pieces and connected passed pawns – easy to see when you get there, but appreciating this well in advance was inspired.
