September 20, 2011: US Mint Sales Report, Coin Legislation, 2013 Presidential Dollar Designs

We’re back for another round up of coin collecting news and articles from across the internet! First, the latest United States Mint numismatic sales report with the opening figures for the collectible uncirculated 2011-W Silver Eagle. Also, Olympic Quarter Three Coin Set, coin legislation before Congress, 2013 Presidential Dollar designs, coin market reports, Gold Kangaroo coins, Chinese Panda coins, coin provenance, two and three dollar bills, and notable auctions. The weekly US Mint numismatic sales report shows the 2011-W Uncirculated Silver Eagle off to a fast start. Gold and platinum numismatic products continue their recent subdued sales levels.

Today the US Mint released the Olympic National Park Quarter Three Coin Set. There seems to be a small but steady following for the product type.

So far there have not been any coin related bills approved by the 112th Congress. Here is a summary of the dozen or so bills that have been introduced.

The Commission of Fine Arts provided its recommendations for the 2013 Presidential Dollar designs.

The Royal Canadian Mint is on track to sell 25 million ounces of silver bullion coins, representing an increase of 30% over the prior year. Gold sales are expected to be 1 million ounces, around the same level as last year.

And now for some notable auctions. First, a group of five 1979 Type 2 Proof Sets in original packaging with the Mint shipping box.

Next, the proof version of the 2010-W Jane Pierce First Spouse Gold Coin graded PCGS PR70DCAM. This issue seems to have one of the lower mintages of the series for a proof coin.

Last, a group of 14 Presidential Dollar Historical Signature Sets. This product was discontinued after 2008 to the disappointment of some collectors.
