NASA unveils giant rocket design for future odysseys

An artist's conception shows the concept for the Ares 5 heavy-lift rocket that was set aside when Project Constellation was canceled. The Space Launch System uses some of the same elements that were contemplated for the Ares 5, including shuttle-derived rocket engines and solid rocket boosters, but would be more powerful.The design for NASA's newest behemoth of a rocket harkens back to the giant workhorse liquid rockets that propelled men to the moon. But this time the destinations will be much farther and the rocket even more powerful.
