Despite his lost decade of unhinged lunacy, Mel Gibson’s role as disillusioned post-apocalyptic cop Max Rockatansky still manages to stand unsullied, and the image of his Falcon XB Interceptor remains seared into the collective car consciousness of gearheads the world over. With that in mind, Ford Australia, working in conjunction with Top Gear Australia magazine, has unveiled a pair of concepts evisioning what Max’s Interceptor would look like should everything go pear-shaped in the not-so-distant future.
For some reason, both of the concepts seem to channel the Bugatti Veyron, rather than a cobbled-together-from scrap hand-of-law machine. According to designer Nima Nourian, his rendition of Max’s car features “an industrial-strength taser that’ll zap cars dead and out of the way.” Meanwhile, Simon Brook’s Interceptor features retractable food-processor blades designed to “do some serious damage to other people’s vehicles.” The whole project seems a little too, erm, cheerful and clean to us. Meanwhile, Mad Max director George Miller has begun work on a fourth installment in the series—sans Gibson. No word at press time as to whether either of the cars s-s-s-sucks nitro. After all, it’s an alternative fuel.
