The electric car may never take over the world, but at least its relevancy is right around the corner. Mercedes-Benz will launch a virtually production-ready concept of an electrified B-class at the Paris auto show later this month. The compact, high-roof five-seater is powered by a 134-hp electric motor that produces up to 229 lb-ft of torque; the powerplant is supplied by Tesla, of which Mercedes-parent-company Daimler owns four percent. Energy is stored in lithium-ion batteries placed in an “energy space” in front of the rear axle, and Benz promises 125 miles of range.
