The United States Mint has announced the planned offering of a 25th Anniversary Silver Eagle Set. With a maximum mintage of 100,000 and two coins potentially unique to the set, it should be a quick sell out.

New applicants are being sought for the Citizens Coinage Advisory Committee. The two open positions are for someone specially qualified in numismatic curation and some to represent the interest of the general public.

Louis Golino discusses some of the newly available online resources for collectors launched by NGC and Park Avenue Numismatics.

ABC News has some coverage of the ANA World’s Fair of Money, which is attracting record crowds. Scott Travers is quoted, “I have never seen the type of feverish demand for gold coins that I am seeing at this show.”

A report on the convention from Dave Harper who discusses how an urgency to do business seems to be impacting some of the displays.

Part three of an article series discussing the rarities night auction for the ANA convention. This one covers gold coins.

Local coverage of the launch ceremony held in Ohio for the Rutherford B. Hayes Presidential Dollar. A photo gallery is included. A separate article with some information on the coin exchange, which nearly sold out of the 12,000 coins available.

An interesting article about how Australia turned a small cache of 1964 pennies into specially issued encased commemorative coins.

Why do coins carry dates and mint marks?

Mark Ferguson has some interesting background and information on the famous 1804 Silver Dollar, or the “King of American Coins.”

A contract has been awarded to Concurrent Technologies Corporation to conduct research and development into “economical alternative metallic materials” for United States circulating coins.

Dubai has launched a new 24 karat, five ounce gold coin that it hopes will be as successful as the Gold Krugerrand.

Gold is no longer “just for the crazy people.” Along with other impressions on the skyrocketing price of gold.

Higher gold prices have resulted in price increases and suspensions for the US Mint’s numismatic products.

And now for some notable auctions. First, all five of the numismatic 2010-P America the Beautiful 5 oz. Uncirculated Silver Coins.

Next, a complete set of 1948-1963 BU Franklin Half Dollars in Dansco Album. The 35 coins included in the set now have a melt value of $543.

Last, the uncirculated version of the 2010-W Mary Todd Lincoln First Spouse Gold Coin, graded NGC MS 70. This coin seems to have a low mintage relative to the potential demand for this better known First Lady.

That’s it for another update. Have a great weekend!
