Social Security Will Run Dry Even Sooner Than the Latest Bad Projection
Filed under: Retirement
For the past several years, Social Security's Trustees have been reporting on the accelerating depletion of that program's Trust Fund. As recently as 2008, the Trust Fund's doomsday was projected to be as far away as 2041. But over the past several years that collapse date has inched forward and now sits at 2033.Unfortunately, even that projection looks like it's a bit too optimistic. It turns out that there's a very real risk that next year's report will move that date even closer.
What...

Mitsubishi Unveils New Outlander Plug-In Hybrid for Europe and Beyond [2012 Paris Auto Show]
Mitsubishi sales may have desiccated in the U.S., but the company is still chugging along, as evidenced by this rather high-tech Outlander plug-in hybrid for the 2012 Paris auto show. It isn’t presently clear whether the fuel-sipping Outlander plug-in is destined for our shores—it’s based on the recently redesigned gas-powered version—but the crossover is significant if only for its parent company’s current humble position. Use a Power Assisted Toilet to Save Thousands of Gallons of Water per Year!
Face it. Those 1990's era 1.6 gal/flush low-flow toilets may have been well intentioned but were terrible.
They have a history of being unreliable and few things are worse than a toilet not flushing properly and consistently. Sometimes those old style low-flow toilets would require a user to flush multiple times before they did their job and would end up using 3.2 or 4.8 gallons per use, not 1.6, wasting water and accomplishing nothing more than irritating the user.

And the Number One Threat to the Market Is...
Filed under: Apple, Wells Fargo & Co, Market News
By Joe Weisenthal
With the market in exuberant, can't lose bull-mode, we asked a group of our favorite investors, strategists, and economists a simple question: What's the #1 threat to the market right now?
Without further throat clearing, here are the answers we got.
Sebastien Galy, SocGen:
Dave Lutz, Stifel, Nicolaus:Spain delaying (asking for a bailout) too much, unexpected signs of a slowdown in China, Middle East goes hot.

How to Adjust a Toilet Ballcock(also called a fill valve)
So many toilet problems are related to a faulty flush valve (the device that lets water out of the tank) or a faulty fill valve known as a ballcock (I have no idea where they come up with these names either). Often, you will find that the ballcock is not defective, it is just improperly adjusted.

...Eric Clapton Set to Sell Painting for 20 Times What He Paid
Filed under: People
LONDON (Reuters) - Should Eric Clapton ever decide to hang up the guitar, he might try his hand at art dealing. The 67-year-old British rocker is selling an abstract painting by German artist Gerhard Richter at Sotheby's next month which is expected to fetch $14-19 million.
The price itself may raise barely an eyebrow in auction house circles, where Richter has long been one of the world's most sought after living painters with an auction record of $21.8 million set in New York in May.

Before iPhone Announcement, Apple Store Is Down
Filed under: Technology, Apple
By Sara PerezAnd so it begins. In typical Apple (AAPL) fashion, the Apple Store has now gone down in advance of today's Apple press event (yes, "event," not "press conference") here in San Francisco. It's expected that Apple will today announce a new, larger-screened iPhone with LTE, which may or may not be called the "iPhone 5." Rumors and pundits have been going back and forth on whether or not Apple will continue to give iPhone models numbers, or will rather go the way of the iPad, simply...

2013 Honda Accord Starts at $22,470, Good for 36 mpg Highway
The new-for-2013 Honda Accord was revealed just a month ago, but already it has been priced and the EPA has approved Honda’s fuel-efficiency estimates. The base four-banger sedan starts at $22,470 ($200 more than a base 2012 sedan) and an entry-level coupe is $24,140 ($270 more than last year’s base coupe). The V-6–powered Accords also get inflated stickers compared to 2012: sedans start at $30,860 and the two-door will run you $31,140. Honda discontinued the EX-trimmed V-6 for 2013, so it’ll cost you $2690 more to get into a V-6 sedan than it did last year, while the new V-6–powered coupe is $320 more than last year’s entry V-6 model. A full pricing breakdown follows below. Read full story »
